| Entrance of Laurel Grove
Cemetery, circa mid-1930s/early 40s.
"You will note on the bottom of the photo is the roof of Memorial
School and in the left bottom, the beginning of Dr. Armand DeRosa's
property where my wife, family and I lived from 1986 to 1998. Dr.
DeRosa built the house in 1940 (he had his office from 1929 to 1940
on top of Doc's Pharmacy and the A&P which was at the top of the
hill at the intersection of Totowa Road and Union Boulevard). I had
my law office in DeRosa's house from 1986 to 2004. In 2005, the
Borough of Totowa bought the property. Dr. DeRosa was an ob/gyn and
many of Totowa's finest were born to woman through his office. He
was also the school doctor for Memorial and Washington Park."

| "This billboard was above Rickel's or Ice World circa 1982. Some
funny Totowa characters climbed the ladders and personalized the TV
ad with
a little dose of Totowa ....you might even know the artists."

| "This shot of Angelo's Tryon Station was taken after he closed
up shop in or around 1982, I believe. The tanks are gone and the
pumps were removed as well. Tryon had the cheapest, off-brand gas
around. I remember it costing 33.9 cents a gallon when I started
driving in 1973. It went to 55 cents a gallon during the first gas
crisis." |

"This is the old entrance to St. James School
not long after the church it once was had been converted into the
parish school. I am guessing on the date. I started school there in
September 1961. The priest to the left appears to be Father Francis
Reilly, the pastor and founder of the modern St. James Church. The
Franciscan nun in the middle appears to be the principal, Sister
Francis Jerome, who I remember teaching third grade as well. I do
not remember the name of the parish priest to the right. The
students are not in uniform but it appears that they are dressed for
a special occasion, maybe the May Procession. In posting this, you
may find some former students who recognize themselves."
