Kim Giardino, page 3

When I brought a light bulb into the Sgobba Monument office one morning and asked them if they could make it four feet tall and in granite, they paused for a minute, looked at my bulb and said, "Yea, we can do that, no problem."  That was the beginning of a two year relationship with the Sgobba family monument company.  I had asked around trying to find good stone carvers that would be able to create a light bulb out of stone.  Everyone I spoke to referred me to this family.  Their father use to carve by hand.  The sons learned the craft and business from him.  When Kim died  we collaborated once again.  I came up with the design concept and they turned it into stone.

Anthony Sgobba shows the blueprint for Kim's monument.

It was a strange coincidence that my mother was driving home from the store and saw Kim's name on the truck driving in front of her.  She followed the guys to the cemetery to watch the installation. (Photo by Marie Giardino)
